Spring Lectures in the Thatch Cottage, Kilmovee

Wednesday 26th April and Tuesday 30th May

Wednesday April 26th.

Presented by East Mayo native Patricia Conway, April’s lecture will focus on the often forgotten about Congested District Board, (the forerunner of the Land Commission) from 1891 to 1923 in how they developed the land and landscape of East Mayo. Patricia will talk about how this agency oversaw the transfer of land from landlord to tenant, including the Dillon Estate, and how the CDB helped alleviate rural poverty. A fascinating night, a must for anyone interested in the local history of Kilmovee, Ballaghaderreen and surrounding areas. Doors open at 7.30pm. Talk starts at 8pm. Adm €5 includes refreshments. All ages welcome.

Tuesday 30th May –

The Rambling House Remembered By James Reddiough and Featuring Paddy Joe Tighe.

Local historian, journalist and author James Reddiough will give a talk on the Rambling House of Ireland. Featuring talented traditional musician Paddy Joe Tighe. A fabulous night to remembered. Doors open at 7.30pm. Talk starts at 8pm. Adm €5 includes refreshments. All ages welcome.
